From the Notebook - Red Admiral Ruby Ale
- FREE UK shipping for orders over £75
The Red Admiral, commonly seen in gardens, is one of the most easily recognisable British butterflies.
Relatively few Red Admirals survive our winters and summer numbers depend on migration from this strong-flying butterfly’s winter breeding grounds in southern Europe.
The Red Admiral’s caterpillars are usually found on nettles, but occasionally on wild hops! Ivy flowers are a valuable source of nectar in the autumn when many other plants have ceased flowering.
This Ruby Ale echoes the Red Admiral’s major colour. Our combination of Columbus hops and malt gives a complex flavour that can be enjoyed, like a sighting of this superb insect, in any month of the year. 4.8%abv

From the Notebook
Formed in 2012 by 2 guys with a passion for Wildlife and Real Ale, From the Notebook Ltd is all about celebrating the diversity of British wildlife through the lovely drink that is beer! The “from the notebook” brand aims to celebrate the beauty and diversity of nature through the fabulous natural product that is beer! Our “notebook” branding style is derived from a wildlife enthusiast making notebook sketches and annotations out in the field based on their observations.
This approach was inspired by the actual field sketches of Stewart Sexton a Northumbrian wildlife enthusiast, who kindly agreed to provide the lovely label drawings associated with the Seabird, Butterfly and Moth series' of beers. Endeavouring to style the beers in a way that represents the characteristics of the creatures we portray on our labels and pump clips. We call this concept “wildlife-inspired idiosyncratic beer”.
